Cars moved, people rushed, voices blended into one endless noise. No one looked at anyone for too long\u2026 especially not at an old man in a wheelchair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He sat near the corner of a wide avenue, dressed better than anyone around him. A perfectly tailored suit. Polished shoes. A silver watch catching the golden light of sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once, he had everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power. Influence. Respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now\u2026 he just watched people pass by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s when she appeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A small girl. No older than seven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her clothes were worn, slightly too big for her. Her shoes didn\u2019t match. Her hair was messy, like no one had brushed it in days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His eyes filled with disbelief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With something deeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something he hadn\u2019t felt in years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He looked at the girl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But she hadn\u2019t changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still watching him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A small, quiet smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And finally, she answered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m someone you forgot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The words didn\u2019t make sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the words felt empty even to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The girl stepped back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her hand slowly leaving his leg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The warmth began to fade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His knees weakened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like she had never been there at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
